Why SERVPRO Drills Small Holes to Prevent or Mitigate Water Damage in Pensacola
Your home can sustain invasion from lost water in many places. Overhead, rain falling across Pensacola can find its way inside after shingles get blown loose by strong winds. Gutters can also suffer damage from winds or impact from trees that fall onto your home, and then flood your home with accumulated rain near your foundation. Broken pipes can happen anywhere in between.
Why SERVPRO technicians perform specific tasks and how they prevent or mitigate water damage in a Pensacola area home comes from their training and experience. We always want to provide our customers with the most cost-effective services possible while also performing work that we know has the best chances of remaining effective for the longest period.
Some of these methods might seem destructive, when in fact they really go a long way toward protecting your property. Water can become trapped inside dead space cavities all around your home. To get this water out, either by extraction, draining, or drying methods, we drill small holes that lets the trapped water out. These same holes can allow us to force warm air inside the space so it can dry out.
Whenever we do this, we first look for ways to hide the hole after we finish. For walls, the most common place we use is behind the baseboards. In ceilings, we might find it possible to use the space where an overhead light comes through the ceiling. While we cannot drain a ceiling this way, we can use it to send air through the entire ceiling space.
When a ceiling shows a curvature and sagging, we know that the most likely reason is trapped water weighing it down. A bucket underneath catches the water draining from tiny weep holes. As the water drains and the 'circle' becomes smaller, we drill a series of holes that follow a line across a part of your ceiling.
Patching these holes with some compound can often hide them enough that repainting the entire ceiling does not become necessary. Even with noticeable holes, this method restores the ceiling back to a safe condition and carries a lower cost than replacing the ceiling. We can reattach the ceiling to the support beams and draw it back up, “Like it never even happened.”
